Like the residue of fine earth settled from water, this composition layer silt, charcoal, and ochre in irregular, organic bands. The surface is hand-knotted, giving it a dense, low pile where the natural character of the wool is evident. Subtle shifts between the hues are achieved not through sharp lines but through gradual blending, mirroring the stratified look of alluvial deposits.
In some sections, the darker charcoal is interrupted by thinner stripes of pale greige, like light catching a damp, dark surface. The edges are finished cleanly, without fringe, allowing the color field to extend fully to the perimeter. This hand-knotted piece offers a grounding presence, its patterns both intentional and seemingly accidental, like the gradual layering of the landscape itself. The tactile variation across the flat weave comes from the unevenness of the hand-spun yarn.
